Black Mountain Movers

Hardly a week goes by without an insured Open Box Moving Solutions truck working a street somewhere in Black Mountain. Every one of those jobs gets its price set in writing up front, and that fixed number is exactly what the customer settles at the end.

A Black Mountain quote in about a minute

Share a few quick details and what comes back is a single clear flat rate — the resident-permit parking and the downtown loft COI were folded into that number well before it reached your inbox.

The moment this reaches our Coxe Ave office in Asheville, your written rate starts its trip back to you and lands before the work day is out. Pricing the job costs you nothing, and sending the form in leaves you free of any commitment — take all the time you want with the figure, because the decision is yours alone to make. What you type goes to a single estimator putting your quote together, and it never leaves that desk.

Black Mountain, NC Moving Services

Fifteen miles east of Asheville on I-40, Black Mountain sits where the valley narrows — a walkable Cherry Street downtown, the Montreat and Ridgecrest retreat grounds, and a lot of cabins tucked up the slopes. The ridge cabins are a specialty we’ve earned the hard way since Cole Brantley started the company in 2012.

If the truck can’t make the switchback, we shuttle it. That’s the Black Mountain job.

The homes we load up here

The in-town houses near Cherry Street are straightforward older bungalows and ranches. It’s the ridge cabins that define the work.

  • Log or timber-frame cabins at the top of a long gravel switchback
  • Loft bedrooms reached by a steep ladder-stair, with a finished walkout below
  • Eli Sumner handles any piano coming out of those lofts
  • Oversized pieces worked down narrow cabin stairs by hand, level and slow
  • Becca Hollis holds a load in climate-controlled storage when a cabin sale and the next closing don’t line up

Getting the truck to the door

This is where Black Mountain earns its reputation. From the valley floor, I-40 lines a move up cleanly toward Asheville, the Smokies, or a longer haul east.

Winter ice heads-up

The gravel switchbacks to the cabins are often too tight and steep for a 26-footer, so Dale Pruett checks the approach from dispatch and we shuttle in a smaller truck when the grade demands it. Ice storms can glaze those roads solid — we move a date before sending a crew up an iced switchback.

What you can count on

That Western NC rate folds in the truck and every bit of gear stowed aboard it — quilted pads, dollies, floor runners, all of it. The clock starts on a three-hour block. For a typical Black Mountain job — a condo, a craftsman bungalow, or a mountain cabin tucked up a ridge — the crew usually has the load buttoned up somewhere between the third and fifth hour.

Black Mountain moving, your questions

Answers for your Black Mountain move

My cabin is at the top of a steep gravel road. Can you reach it?
That's everyday work for us in Black Mountain. Dale checks the switchback from the dispatch desk, and when the grade is too tight or too steep for the 26-footer, we shuttle your load up or down in a smaller truck. Nothing gets stuck and the cabin still empties in a day.
Can you move a piano out of a loft cabin?
Yes. Eli Sumner runs our piano work, and a loft upright or grand coming down a narrow cabin stair is exactly his specialty. The crew guides it out on quilted pads and the right dolly, and full-value coverage rides it the whole way.
What happens if there's an ice storm on my move date?
We watch the forecast for the ridge roads, and if an ice storm has the switchbacks glazed we reschedule rather than send a crew up an iced grade. Pushing the date a day or two is the safe call when a climb turns dangerous, and the change costs you nothing on the written quote you already hold.
Will you store my things between closings?
We can. Cabin sales often close before the next place is ready, so Becca arranges climate-controlled storage and the load isn't sitting in a hot or cold trailer in between. It rides on that one written total.

We know these streets

For our crew, the tight Western NC switchbacks, the steep gravel driveways, the resident-permit parking, and the COI a downtown loft keeps on file are all in a day's work. Send over the details and the truck, the blankets, and our W-2 crew roll up together on one quoted price, well before a single box is lifted.
