Black Mountain, NC Moving Services
Fifteen miles east of Asheville on I-40, Black Mountain sits where the valley narrows — a walkable Cherry Street downtown, the Montreat and Ridgecrest retreat grounds, and a lot of cabins tucked up the slopes. The ridge cabins are a specialty we’ve earned the hard way since Cole Brantley started the company in 2012.
If the truck can’t make the switchback, we shuttle it. That’s the Black Mountain job.
The homes we load up here
The in-town houses near Cherry Street are straightforward older bungalows and ranches. It’s the ridge cabins that define the work.
- Log or timber-frame cabins at the top of a long gravel switchback
- Loft bedrooms reached by a steep ladder-stair, with a finished walkout below
- Eli Sumner handles any piano coming out of those lofts
- Oversized pieces worked down narrow cabin stairs by hand, level and slow
- Becca Hollis holds a load in climate-controlled storage when a cabin sale and the next closing don’t line up
Getting the truck to the door
This is where Black Mountain earns its reputation. From the valley floor, I-40 lines a move up cleanly toward Asheville, the Smokies, or a longer haul east.
Winter ice heads-up
The gravel switchbacks to the cabins are often too tight and steep for a 26-footer, so Dale Pruett checks the approach from dispatch and we shuttle in a smaller truck when the grade demands it. Ice storms can glaze those roads solid — we move a date before sending a crew up an iced switchback.
