What an Asheville local move truly costs
Most callers lowball a mountain move, often because somebody floated a tidy phone number for a home nobody had seen. An in-town job is metered from the first box lifted to the last set down, and the bill is crew, truck, and the hours between.
- Base rate~$159/hr, 2 movers + truck
- Fuller housePulls in a 3rd mover
- What runs the clockAccess, not distance
Distance is almost beside the point
A 26-footer creeping up a hairpin Montford grade, a sofa edged through a pinched older West Asheville stairwell, a carry plotted around a glazed January driveway, all eat hours a flat garage never would. An honest estimator prices that gap in.
Once Travis Greer has walked the rooms, the hourly math hardens into one figure on paper that holds us to it. The ranges below reflect a typical job around Asheville and Western North Carolina, in towns like Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Weaverville, Arden, and Fletcher.
| Home size | Crew & truck | Typical flat rate | Usual time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio / 1-bedroom apartment | 2 movers, 1 truck | $550 – $950 | 3 – 5 hours |
| 2-bedroom apartment or condo | 2 – 3 movers, 1 truck | $950 – $1,700 | 5 – 7 hours |
| 3-bedroom historic home | 3 – 4 movers, 1 truck | $1,700 – $2,900 | 7 – 9 hours |
| 4+ bedroom house | 4 movers, 1 – 2 trucks | $2,900 – $4,800 | Full day |
Where the hours actually pile up
Four things swing the total, and each is already pinned inside the figure you sign, so move day never springs a fresh charge.
- Reaching the door. A tight, steep driveway up around Montford, Kenilworth, or Grove Park weighs most; where the truck cannot reach the threshold we shuttle on a smaller vehicle.
- The vintage stairwell. Half of Asheville is old houses with stairs that coil narrow and frames sized for another century, so easing heavy furniture through takes patience.
- Ice in season. A storm or frozen grade drags a load-out into slow, careful work, so we set the carry path for footing and schedule around weather.
- Oversized and heavy goods. A piano, gun safe, or slate-bed pool table down a coiling old staircase wants trained hands and the right rigging, not muscle.
Lines we will never cross
We will not quote low by phone then jack it up on your porch, fill out the crew with day labor, or hand the work to a subcontractor; the truck and the W-2 movers belong to us.
Crew and coverage, plain
Cole Brantley started Open Box Moving Solutions in 2012, with Hannah Whitford and Becca Hollis on the schedule and Dale Pruett, Travis Greer, and Eli Sumner leading crews.
By federal rule your goods default to released-value protection at 60 cents per pound; full-value protection, which pays toward replacing a broken item, runs roughly 1 to 3 percent of the value you declare. Let us walk your place and hand you a number in writing.
